Posted February 09, 2019 15:18:03For a job-hunting client, there’s a lot to consider.
What is the most interesting job you might be asked to do?
What kind of environment will it take to do it well?
And how much will it cost?
In the UK, the most popular job-search site, jobseeker.com, is now asking jobseekers to apply for hundreds of positions to work in restaurants, retail, fashion and healthcare.
The company says its job hunt is the biggest in the world.
The site has seen a rise in jobseekers seeking new work, and some employers have decided to cut back on the number of applicants.
However, job-seekers are still being asked to apply on average 10 times a day, says the head of the UK’s employment department, Tim Wilson.
The UK Job Seekers Council, which represents more than 3,000 jobseekers, says it has not seen any significant increase in applications from jobseekers in recent months.
The average application for a new job is about 30 to 40 per cent higher than it was a year ago, says John Smith, a director of the council.
The biggest rise has been in the retail and service sector, which saw applications up by about 60 per cent, Smith says.
He says there is also evidence that more people are choosing to work from home.
But some jobseekers are also getting a shock.
In the past few months, jobseekers have started posting jobs for less, with some asking for a pay cut to stay afloat, says Smith.
“The jobseekers’ council believes this is a trend that will only get worse as the economy improves.”
Some of the most stressful times for jobseekers is when they cannot get the job, says Joanna Lasky, a senior jobs analyst at recruitment firm CQ Group.
“The job seeker is constantly having to deal with the fact that they might not get the position, or it might be down to the fact they may not be able to do the job because they’re not available for that position,” she says.
Job seekers have to apply online and often have to put their best foot forward in a CV, says Laskys advice.
It’s hard to say exactly how many jobseekers apply every day, because jobseekers only keep track of the number they get when they apply for the job they want.
The majority of jobseekers who get the first interview are actually in a good position, says Wilson, because they are able to meet a high bar for success.
“When you do get the offer and the employer is happy with the performance and they are confident that you will be able and willing to do what they want, that’s when you start to see a trend.
There’s an increase in those employers who are more willing to go for it,” he says.
A lot of the time, employers are willing to offer a lower pay rate, which is more attractive to jobseekers.
“Some of them say that the job will get done in a day or two, but the pay will be significantly lower,” says Smith, who says he has also seen companies go on to pay their staff better than they did before.
Jobseekers are in a constant state of uncertainty, says Jones.
“A lot is going on behind the scenes that they don’t want to know about,” she said.
“I think it’s just the jobseekers that get frustrated.”
